He said that neuroscience points to a “dysregulated serotonin system” for people with active eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). “This dysregulation combined with increased psychosocial stressors cause individuals to fixate on thoughts and behaviors,” he added.
