Anxiety

See the forest through the trees again…

Too little anxiety, and nothing matters. Too much, and you can’t sleep, relax, or see the big picture. Normal anxiety levels are beneficial, and help you focus and be diligent about what is important. It’s equally important to be able to relax, unwind and sleep, when you have the opportunity. We work with many patients to find the ideal balance between caring too much and caring too little.

“A little anxiety from time to time can be beneficial to task performance…[as] illustrated by the Yerkes-Dodson law, which states…performance is improved by anxiety until an optimum level of arousal is reached.”

So what are the facts?

  • Anxiety is often the exact opposite of mindfulness or presence in the moment. People who suffer from anxiety are often caught up in regrets around the past, or worries of the future – often absent mentally from daily life, friends, and family.
  • 1 in 3 people will experience an anxiety disorder in their lives (28% of adults, to be exact)
  • 11 to 18% of adults have a clinical level of anxiety, right now
  • Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, but only 1/3 of those suffering receive treatment
