Perry Anthony Maliuanag, MD, FAPA
Prior to joining the practice, I have worked closely with patients dealing with life changing medical conditions and their personal journeys during the various phases of their illness. I bring expertise in pharmacology with its nuances in drug-drug interaction but also sensitive to the complexities of the human experience. I am a firm believer in the holistic approach, with emphasis on mindfulness and gratitude as well as the value of lifestyle medicine.
I live by this quote attributed to Victor Frankl, a psychiatrist and Auschwitz survivor who later wrote the book Man’s Search for Meaning,“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
Dr. Maliuanag is double boarded in Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. Consultation-Liaison psychiatry, is the branch of psychiatry that specializes in the interface between general medicine and psychiatry, usually done in a medical center setting. He completed his psychiatry residency and fellowship at Stony Brook University in New York and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Through the years, he has been involved and led various regional committes that has changed workflows in the screening and management of depression, delirium, geriatric medicine and psychosocial distress of cancer. He has also been committed to teaching, having been faculty at the State University of New York, Veterans Medical Medical-Northport, NY, Stanford University, San Mateo Medical Cener and Kaiser Permanente-San Jose and Santa Clara residency programs. He has given lectures not just among colleagues in Psychiatry but also in Critical Care, Palliative Care, Medical and Radiation Oncology and Internal Medicine.
Outside of work, Perry appreciates art, movies, world history and is a foodie. He listens to all types of music with strong prefence to jazz and classical. However his main source of joy and meaning is being with his family.
